Ryan Seacrest: Television, Radio, and Trademarks

For those of you who haven’t seen him as the host of American Idol, co-host of E! News and Dick Clark’s Rockin’ New Year’s Eve, or heard him host America’s Top 40 on the radio, Ryan Seacrest is an Emmy award-nominated television and radio host and television producer.  Seacrest also developed and produced shows for the E! Network, including Denise Richards: It's Complicated. Seacrest has endorsement deals with both Proctor & Gamble and Coca-Cola.  According to Forbes magazine, Seacrest reportedly earns $32 million a year.

With all of this hard work, Seacrest is undoubtedly a very busy man.  Does he even have time to protect his trademarks?  The answer is yes.  A search of the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office Website Database yields seven live “hits” including:

  • RSP RYAN SEACREST PRODUCTIONS + Design U.S. Trademark Application Serial No. 78/528,508 for use with “entertainment services, namely, radio and television programs featuring performances by a television and radio personality; entertainment services, namely, production of radio and television programs; entertainment services, namely, production of live musical events and concerts” in Class 41.
  • RSP RYAN SEACREST PRODUCTIONS + Design U.S. Trademark Registration No. 3,383,430 for use with “entertainment services, namely, television programs featuring performances by a television and radio personality; entertainment services, namely, production of television programs” in Class 41.
  • RYAN SEACREST PRODUCTIONS U.S. Trademark Registration No. 3,024,418 for use with “entertainment services, namely, the production of radio and television programming” in Class 41.
  • RYAN SEACREST U.S. Trademark Registration No. 3,234,453 for use on “clothing, namely, shirts” in Class 25.
  • RYAN SEACREST U.S. Trademark Registration No. 2,995,854 for use with “entertainment services, namely, hosting radio and television programs” in Class 41.
  • ON AIR WITH RYAN SEACREST U.S. Trademark Registration No. 2,964,302 for use with “entertainment services, namely, radio and television programs featuring performances by a television and radio personality” in Class 41.
  • ON AIR WITH RYAN SEACREST + Design U.S. Trademark Application Serial No. 77/501,560 for use with “entertainment services, namely, radio and television programs featuring performances by a television and radio personality” in Class 41.

All of these marks were filed on behalf of Ryan Seacrest Productions, Inc., a California corporation.

Almost all of these marks deal with Seacrest’s main line of work (i.e., entertainment services) although he has apparently expanded his branding efforts to a line of shirts.  Since Seacrest continues to add more programs to his already busy schedule, it may be that he will continue to expand his RYAN SEACREST brand in the future.  His fans, possibly Simon Cowell included, look forward to it.
